More than once in the recent past, I have been inspired to write about the sustainability efforts underway in retail organizations but just could not find the time to write. I just had to make the time after reading a light hearted article in the Wall Street Journal featuring Marcus Boerkei, General Manager of Retail and Commercial Systems for Siemens Building Technologies Division on a romp through NYC retail establishments in search of comfortably cool climes in the midst of soaring summer temperatures.

Catalina Marketing--A Big Data Media Company

Last week I spent a quick jam-packed 60 minutes with Todd Morris, Catalina Marketing's executive vice president of corporate development and marketing, at the company's Boston office. The former P&G executive who ran the Tide brand corrected common misconceptions about the company and profiled its current position. That carried us into a conversation about Catalina's unique selling proposition as a big data media company. Todd and I had a melding of the minds. At one point he commented "You drove a truck through it" when I described the implications of Catalina's capabilities.
