On June 5th, 2013, SAP announced its intent to acquire the ecommerce vendor hybris for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 1997, Munich headquartered hybris generated sales of $114.4 million and a substantial profit in 2012. It is considered to be one of the top 3 choices for major brands investing in off-the-shelf ecommerce. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2013.

The AmazonFresh home delivery trial has been running for years, and many grocers didn't believe Amazon could really conquer this market profitably. We all know many retailers have failed at home delivery, and that some have succeeded, like FreshDirect LLC and Peapod LLC. But whatever we think about the failures of the past, we need to consider just how different the market is today.
