What's going on in the Nordic retail industry?

IDC Retail Insights has recently published a couple of reports that draw upon the last IDC's annual survey of Nordic IT decision makers' investment plans, concerns and attitudes for different technologies and delivery models. These reports are focused on the retail industry in the Nordics and provide a clear picture of what's going on in that industry from a business and technology perspective. In this brief post, I want to share with all of you the key findings that have come out from the survey.

The Renaissance of the Store

Today's consumer is aided and abetted by technology. Think of it, the smartphone in your hand today has more computer power than all that NASA used to land Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon in 1969. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project 46 percent of all Americans carry smartphones now, up from 35 percent a year ago. Sixty-five percent of Facebook's one billion members use their smartphones when engaged on that social network. It's nearly the same with Twitter—60 percent of its participants tweet from their smartphones.
