Citi Investment Research just held its 2012 Global Consumer Conference in New York City. Over 50 firms presented to money managers and institutional investors eager for insight into their growth and profitability plans and execution against them. The retailer executives' wide-ranging commentary touched here and there on their technology investment strategies. Most were eager to delve a little deeper during audience Q&A to draw the connection. We'll summarize what we heard in this research note.

I recently attended JDA Focus 2012, held in Las Vegas in May 2012. Following are highlights as well as a review of JDA's current strategy for those retailers that are JDA customers or for those that are considering JDA. The personal highlight for me was participating in the panel discussion, The New Consumer Reality: What it Means for Retailers and Manufacturers. Condoleezza Rice's fabulous presentation, The Extraordinary Opportunity for Global Economies, set our discussion up nicely. .

We've just completed some significant research on mobility in retail, and wanted to share with you some of our thematic findings, ahead of a more in-depth survey report and a perspective. Based on the feedback from survey respondents along with a series of executive interviews with retailers, we are seeing that retailers have identified mobility as a core focus of technology investments for 2012 and beyond.
