As a follow up to Leslie's post on January 4th, 2012 'Prepare for the NFC Enabled Consumer Now' and Christine's post on January 10th, 2012 "To NFC or not to NFC? A Quick Overview of Contactless and NFC Payments in the UK", this post provides a quick overview of contactless payments and NFC mobile payments in Italy. Unlikely the UK and France, the diffusion of contacless payments is not really widespread at this point in time in Italy.

I am happy to report that our Canadian retail mobility event, In-Store Assisted Selling Survival of the Fittest: Mobility Blurs the E-Commerce Lines, was absolutely fabulous! We had a great group of retail attendees and speakers that made it quite natural to have plenty of thought provoking discussions and knowledge sharing.

I'm finishing a Perspective on Macy's initiatives to make customers, as Chairman Terry Lundgren's said, "as comfortable and ready to buy in our stores as they do online." The news caught my eye. Macy's gambit definitively confirms that "online inside" is the new battleground. Vetting the report led me to a thought-provoking conversation with an executive at another retailer. It got me thinking. Is omnichannel a strategy or an enabling framework for a customer strategy?

RFID Journal Live 2012 is in process as I write, and for the first time in 7 or 8 years I am not there. Truth is I registered, but something else came up that took precedence. I must say though, that after a second look at the retail agenda, the event is doing little to serve and attract retailers, so I really don't feel like I am missing anything. Yes, there are a couple of retailers on the podium at Live talking about their initiatives, but these are the stories I know well.
