Last year, I wrote that RFID Journal Live 2009 was "refreshingly pragmatic and busy". This year, it was less frenetic, perhaps a little smaller, with fewer vendors and end users in attendance, but very well grounded. Solid examples of really good business cases shined, while real technological progress and maturity was evidenced everywhere. After walking the trade show floor and meeting with many vendors and end-users, I have drawn several very important conclusions, including:

In March 2010 IDC Retail Insights EMEA analysts had the opportunity to visit Accenture's Customer Innovation Center (CIC) in Milan. The Center works as a lab for assessing the value of innovative customer centric technologies - and their application to the retail, consumer products and telecommunication industries - as well as a hub for providing IT services to Accenture's clients in EMEA.

In a recent supply chain survey, retailers overwhelmingly, among all segments and sizes, reported that "Improving product quality" is their number one supply chain initiative. Completely in line with our 2010 predictions, this response means retailers clearly understand the gravity of the competitive landscape, and have received the consumer message that quality, value and transparency are all equally important.
