Federal Data Center Costs Vary Significantly by Agency

For today's U.S. federal data centers, it can be very challenging to compare the amount of money spent annually on electricity to the amount that is spent on, say, IT hardware or general data center operations.

A quick review of the data from the 16 largest U.S. agencies shows that there is no standard ratio for those types of data center spending. Budgets can be all over the map. But even amid these agency-by-agency fluctuations, a few trends do become clear.
