The World Smart Cities Congress is underway in Barcelona and is the setting for Microsoft's official Western European launch of its Smart City offering, CityNext. This is interesting timing related to IDC's Predictions 2014 research; Microsoft was one of the vendors to make IDC Government Insight's 2013 Smart City prediction #10 - that three major worldwide IT vendors would come out with Smart City solutions - a reality.
