On March 23 and 24, 2015, IDC Energy Insights hosted its third Pan-European Utilities Executive Summit at the Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg, in the vicinity of Haarlem, Netherlands. The exquisite late-19th century country estate provided the ideal backdrop for delegates at the invitation-only event to discuss the Summit's theme: "Redesigning Utilities for the 'New Normal'". This year's conference and networking platform saw around 40 utility executives openly share the experiences, challenges and expectations of 24 leading utilities from 13 European countries. As it is now tradition, one of the missions of the Summit was to blend the IT people and the business people, to facilitate the convergence of these two worlds. This goal was again met and a delegate distribution skewing slightly towards the lines of business (63%) rather than IT (37%) provided for some well-grounded industry insights.
As a privileged observer at the event, and after letting ideas settle for a few weeks, here are my personal take-aways from the main conference stream:
