This new SaaS offering includes dashboards, reporting, and support services worldwide in an effort to reduce energy and operating costs by up to 20% and at the same time draw new business for Honeywell’s international services business. Attune is one more validation point for the importance of analytics & data management for transforming the facilities management industry to support the evolution of Smart Buildings.

With all the attention being paid to the swaps market due to expected Dodd-Frank regulations, the physical electric markets have seemed rather quiet. Now the physcial markets have come back into view. On March, Constellation Energy agreed to pay the largest settlement in the history of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for trading violations. The interesting thing about this settlement is that it has implications for other companies that are trading in the physical power markets going forward.

Dumb or Smart Grid? In the Dark in Boston

Last night I walked home from an IDC Energy Insights team get together in the dark. Our team was in one of the approximately 21,000 facilities that was left in the dark with a transformer explosion in the Back Bay of Boston. The outage provided a lot of food for thought about outages, information technology, social media and distributed generation.
